Delete your account
Version 1.0.0 · effective from 8 October 2026
You can delete your ZoFound account in the app — or, if you no longer have access to the app, by writing to us. This page explains how, what happens to your data and which time limits apply.
In the app
- Open the ⋯ menu in the app and choose “Account”.
- Tap “Delete your account” at the bottom. Before you decide, you see what will be removed and what remains.
- Tap “Delete my account” and confirm with “Yes, delete my account”.
- Confirm it’s you. If you have not signed in recently, we ask you to sign in again (with Apple, Google or an SMS code) — it’s the only way we can be sure it’s you.
Once the deletion is confirmed, you are signed out. You can also find the way to deletion under “Trust & Privacy” → “Your data”.
Without the app
If you no longer have the app or cannot sign in, you can ask us to delete your account by writing to privacy@zofound.com or by using the form below. Give us your name and the phone number or email address the account was created with. We confirm that the request comes from you and then delete the account.
We reply within one month (Article 12(3) GDPR); for complex requests we may extend by two further months and will tell you.
Ask us to delete your account
We have your request.
We confirm your identity and reply within one month.
In the app you can also delete your account yourself, immediately: ⋯ → Account → “Delete your account”.
A 14-day window to change your mind
Deletion happens in two steps, so you don’t end up regretting a decision made in the heat of the moment.
When you confirm deletion, your account is immediately deactivated and hidden from everyone else — but it is not yet deleted. If you sign back in within 14 days, your account is fully restored, as if nothing happened. If you haven’t signed in after 14 days, final deletion begins automatically and can no longer be undone.
What is deleted, anonymised and kept
What is deleted
Your profile, your photos and other media, your verification (including the verification selfie), your introductions, connections and one-to-one conversations, your event registrations and community memberships, your notifications and push registration — as well as the corresponding data held by our external providers, including your account with our chat provider, your coach conversations and your record with our subscription provider.
You can also have the verification selfie deleted without deleting your account: withdraw your consent to selfie verification in the app under ⋯ → “Trust & Privacy” (“Withdraw”).
If you provided a publicly displayed testimonial, it is always deleted along with your account.
What is anonymised
Messages you sent in groups, threads and shared events remain in place — but without you: the sender is shown as “Deleted user” from then on. We don’t delete them, because doing so would tear holes in other people’s conversations. If you hosted an event that has already taken place, it remains for the attendees with you as an anonymous host; events you haven’t hosted yet are cancelled instead, and registered attendees are notified. Reports you submitted are anonymised.
What is kept temporarily — and why
For the safety of other users and because of our legal obligations, we keep some data for a limited period after deletion:
| Data | Period |
|---|---|
| A minimised, pseudonymised extract of any violation/safety history. It is used solely to detect a repeat pattern if the same person creates a new account — it does not block a new account, and it is not visible to anyone outside our internal safety work. | up to 12 months |
| A pseudonymised identifier so a block survives. It contains no names and is used solely to restore an existing block. | 12 months |
| A pseudonymised log of the deletion itself (when, which steps), as part of our accountability obligations. | up to 24 months |
| Reports about content (including the reported text). | 180 days |
| Evidence in an open safety or report case you are party to. | until the case is closed, plus up to 90 days |
| Consent records, in pseudonymised form. | for as long as we may be asked to produce them |
| Purchase records and accounting documents. | in line with statutory retention periods |
| Crash and diagnostic data. | per the respective service’s periods, at most 12 months |
With our partners. We delete your account with our chat provider immediately, but your message history with them only expires once their own retention period ends — not at the moment of deletion. Brief, aggregated visit and usage statistics in which you are no longer identifiable may likewise persist for a short period after deletion.
Subscriptions. If you have a subscription, you must cancel it yourself in the App Store or Google Play. We cannot do it for you, and it does not stop just because the account goes away.
Your data before deletion
If you want a copy of your data, download it before you delete your account: in the app under ⋯ → “Trust & Privacy” → “Your data” → “Download my data”. Read more under Your data.
If you want specific messages gone entirely, do it before the deletion (remove or recall the message) — afterwards your messages are only anonymised.
